Zhundong Drilling Company | Digital and Intelligent Transformation Picks Up “Speed”

Classification:

“With just a few clicks of the mouse, you can generate standardized documents; complex spreadsheet formulas are automatically derived; and PPT templates can be applied with a single click.” On January 7, in the office of the Zhundong Drilling Company’s Office/Party Committee Office, Deputy Director Tan Zheng was personally demonstrating practical techniques for tools such as Xizuan Digital Intelligence AI and DeepSeek to his department’s staff. The dynamic operation interface flashing on the screen, coupled with occasional bursts of lively discussion and exchange, vividly illustrated how digital intelligence technologies are seamlessly integrating into office workflows. This vivid scene is just one small glimpse of the company’s broader digital transformation wave—spanning everything from administrative offices to the frontline drilling operations, where digital and intelligent empowerment is bringing about transformative change across the board.

From AI tools that exponentially boost office efficiency to smart well sites enabling safe and efficient operations, from remote monitoring fortifying security defenses to ERP systems streamlining management workflows—Zhundong Drilling Company is deeply implementing its “Digital and Intelligent Xizuan” development strategy. Supported by solid top-level design and driven by a wealth of practical application scenarios, the company is making steady and rapid progress on the digital transformation journey, injecting powerful digital and intelligent momentum into the high-quality development of drilling production.

For digital transformation, top-level design is key.

Zhundong Drilling Company places digital and intelligent transformation at the heart of its overall development strategy, establishing a coordinated support system that integrates “organization, talent, resources, and performance evaluation.” In terms of organizational structure, the Engineering Technology Department has been clearly designated to oversee both digital and information-related functions. A leading group headed by senior management and a dedicated office have been set up to ensure clear lines of authority and responsibility and efficient execution. Regarding talent development, the company has teamed up with EISC to form a specialized IT team; key members have been appointed to the Western Drilling Digitalization Expert Committee, facilitating smooth technical communication and coordination. In terms of resource allocation, the company allocates over 5 million yuan annually in special funds, focusing on supporting projects such as the digital drilling fleet and the remote support center. As for performance evaluation and incentives, transformation targets are cascaded down to departments and grassroots teams, incorporated into quarterly performance assessments, thereby stimulating intrinsic motivation and encouraging the active participation of all employees.

Focusing on the production core, on-site applications yield remarkable results.

Zhundong Drilling Company is leveraging five key projects as catalysts to promote the deep integration of digital technologies with drilling operations. The “Single Network for Well Sites” continues to be optimized and upgraded, achieving separate construction and unified operation and maintenance of four major networks—office, monitoring, industrial control, and others—thus establishing a stable and reliable “information highway.” The “Digital Well Site” initiative sets a benchmark for industry leadership; the well-site data center has been upgraded and modernized, equipped with smart devices such as electronic watch stations and driller navigation systems. The construction experience of Drilling Team 70279 was shared at the Group’s exchange conference, and Drilling Team XD90501 has obtained digital certification from CNPC Technical Services.

The “Happy West Drilling” initiative is being implemented with precision and effectiveness. Targeted differentiated networking solutions have been deployed for 4 key wells and 17 remote wells, addressing the challenges of network access at the grassroots level and helping to reduce burdens while boosting efficiency. The EISC system demonstrates its “intelligent brain” capabilities: by 2025, it will achieve full coverage of monitoring for all types of drilling rigs, having accumulated over 2,800 alerts for abnormal conditions, halted risky operations 303 times, and maintained a stable overall parameter compliance rate above 90%. The centrally integrated ERP system has been smoothly launched; more than 50 key users, after six months of intensive effort, have completed training, testing, data migration, and other tasks, ensuring seamless integration of business data.

From the widespread adoption of AI tools in office settings to the application of smart equipment at drilling sites, Zhundong Drilling Company’s digital transformation has now permeated the entire production and operational chain. Moving forward, the company will continue to focus on its goal of building a “Digital and Intelligent Western Drilling” enterprise, deepening the integration and innovation of digital technologies across all business processes, and driving the transformation to greater depth through more pragmatic measures—thus making a stronger contribution to setting a new benchmark for intelligent drilling and ensuring the exploration and development of oilfields.

Good News: Sinopec Achieves New Breakthrough in “Deep-Earth Engineering”

Recently, Sinopec’s “Deep-Earth Engineering–Sichuan–Chongqing Natural Gas Base” has once again reported a significant breakthrough. The Yonghong-1 well, a key ultra-deep tight sandstone exploration well deployed by Sinopec Exploration Branch in Bazhong City, Sichuan Province, has successfully tested high-producing gas flows, marking an important new stratigraphic breakthrough in the Jurassic system of the Sichuan Basin. This discovery confirms the favorable exploration and development potential of the Jurassic tight sandstones in the Bazhong area, suggesting the prospect of establishing a new resource base for increasing reserves and boosting production in the Sichuan Basin.
